Fleece is a soft fabric with a napped surface that has excellent insulating properties. It retains body heat well, making it ideal for cold weather. It's a warm fabric that comes in a range of materials. Fleece fabric is usually made from a type of polyester called polyethylene terephthalate (PET) or other synthetic fibers, woven and brushed into a light weight fabric. Other materials can be used and added when making the fabric, including natural fibers, like wool, or recycled fibers, like recycled PET plastic.  The fleece material can be designed to be breathable or made to keep the heat inside next to your body. This man-made material can be blended with natural fibers and their breathing ability is incorporated into your fleece outfits.  Fleece fabrics are knit, and then at least one side is brushed to loosen fibers and create a nap (raised surface) for a soft, plush feel. The two-sided plush garments generally referred to as fleece are brushed on both sides.
