Nolcha Fashion Week: London 2008 debuted at the
Mayfair Hotel from February 11-16. The well-attended
event included representatives present from
virtually all major retail outlets and fashion
press. Nolcha was created to provide opportunities
for designers to interact with industry
professionals via runway events, seminars and
professional networking.
We were
delighted to be a sponsor of the launch of Nolcha
Fashion Week: London 2008, states Ran Machtinger,
President and CEO of OptiTex, Ltd.
The level of
creativity exhibited was breathtaking, and the
featured work of artist Laurance Rassin was an
absolute show stopper. His artistic vision is
remarkable.
Rassin is a New York-based painter who recently began bringing his powerful abstract work into the fashion world. His works form a narrative across more than 300 paintings; employ a sculptor's sensibilities with his use of media and color. His vibrant, colorful paintings can have as many as 100 layers of paint in the impasto fashion a la impressionists such as Van Gogh and Monet, and a single canvas can weigh as much as 100 pounds. He premiered a line of silk dresses with abstract prints, designed using OptiTex software.
I had already used sections of my paintings as inspiration to design a line of lingerie that could also be used as swimwear, so I was already familiar with the pitfalls of creating couture, said Rassin. I was immediately taken with how user-friendly OptiTex's software is and how I could totally customize my on-screen work environment to suit my sensibilities, which is key for an artist's creative process.
OptiTex's cutting-edge CAD/cAM software provides fully adjustable 2D and 3D models. Designers can now increase speed to market and achieve rapid ROI by creating, correcting and adjusting any aspect of their designs before the first piece of fabric is cut, dramatically reducing wasted fabric, machine/kilowatt use, and manpower hours. This also serves to provide an environmentally friendly edge.
The fact
that this generation's leading creators of
beautiful, powerful art such as Laurance Rassin have
chosen to deploy our software feels like a
privilege,
concludes Machtinger. We're honored
that he's chosen our technology, and we certainly
look forward to collaborating with him and other
budding designers by sponsoring Nolcha Fashion Week:
New York this September 2008.

About Laurance Rassin
An abstract expressionist and surrealist painter, whose original canvasses have been featured in galleries from Palm Beach, FLA., to Philadelphia, PA., is a graduate of the American University film program. Rassin's work as an innovator in the ad/entertainment arena has earned him recognition in Daily Variety, Adweek, CNN, The Washington Post, and a bevy of other publications, domestic and international. Turning his attentions towards painting a few, short years ago, Laurance's unyielding creative energy has afforded him the opportunity to develop a unique, idyllic approach to painting that on countless occasions has been likened to a cross between Picasso, Mattise, and Chagal.
