Ms. Rosemary Reed Miller, author of THE THREADS OF TIME, THE fabric OF
HISTORY (38 profiles of Afro-american Designers
from 1850 to 2007), will be speaking about the
role and contributions of selected
African-american designers to the world of
fashion. Ms. Miller holds a BA from Temple
University. As an educator, she taught at Prince
Georges Community College, Howard University,
and the University of the District of Columbia.

Accompanying Ms. Miller will be Ms. Paula
Brooks. Ms. Brooks is the recipient of numerous
awards for her contributions to the local
fashion industry. She received the Council for
Equal Business Opportunity in recognition for
being the first African-american woman to
operate a fashion boutique in a major mall that
she owned and operated with her family for
thirty-five years. Ms. Brooks will be speaking
about her Mother, the late Pauline Brooks, who
started the business along with her sister
Geneva France and her daughter Paula. In
addition, Ms. Brooks will address some of the
designers, milliners, NAFAD members, and other
retail merchants that contributed to Baltimore's
rich fashion industry.
Both lectures will be accompanied by videos or
PowerPoint presentations.

Fashion Designer and product developer, Ms.
Dyanne Marte will be speaking about WEARING THE
RIGHT COLORS FOR YOU. Ms. Marte has over ten
years experience in the fashion field. She holds
a BFA in Fashion Design from The Savannah
College of Art and Design and a Master's in
Design Management from Pratt Institute. She is
currently an adjunct instructor in the Fashion
Program at BCCC. The presentation will help the
audience understand color and how to wear it.
The event will also explore how a person can
wear prints, stripes, and bold patterns
successfully. Models will be used as examples of
how color and pattern can enhance the visual
image. The lecture will be accompanied by a
Power Point presentation.
The lectures are free and open to the public.
