Fashion Company Names  Tapestry

In October 2017 the company announced that it was planning to rename itself as Tapestry, effective on October 31, 2017 (Halloween). The company’s ticker symbol will change from COH to TPR as well.

The corporate name is being changed mainly to reflect that the company’s expanding portfolio. Coach also owns boot maker Stuart Weitzman, which Coach bought in 2015, and fellow handbag maker Kate Spade, which Coach acquired in 2017.

Tapestry is the new company name that owns the Kate Spade brand.


In May 2017, Coach Inc. agreed to acquire rival Kate Spade & Co. for $2.4 billion, as the handbag and accessories maker seeks to tap younger consumers amid slower growth in the handbag market.

It all started back in 1993, when Kate Brosnahan Spade, a former accessories editor at mademoiselle, set out to design the perfect handbag.  Debuting with just six silhouettes, she combined sleek, utilitarian shapes and colorful palettes in an entirely new way.  This is when Kate Spade New York was born.
