Following its
successful debut at the New York Coterie show in September 2005,
ROXS by Shakara Ledard will roll out to nearly 70 stores nationwide
in February/march 2006, transforming the signature style of
model/actress Shakara Ledard into a new brand of luxury street
clothing. With its rock, punk, funk and urban influences, ROXS
(pronounced rocks) seeks to capture the attention of young adult
women, age 22-32, with a desire for designer knitwear, loungewear
and other apparel distinguished by luxurious fabrics, unique
treatments and form-fitting cuts.
The genesis of the
company can be clearly seen in Shakara's own background growing up
in the Bahamas, where her French father owned several upscale
clothing boutiques. After reaping success as an international
model and actress, she harnessed that innate sense of style in
designing her own outfits for red carpet events. The attention
she earned from media, fans and even other celebrities soon sparked
a desire to leverage her presence in the fashion industry to take
it to a new level. Shakara approached veteran apparel
entrepreneur Carl Bethencourt with sketches embodying the outside
the box approach that defined her personal style, and together they
launched what would become ROXS: a new luxury apparel brand for
women unafraid to express themselves, to radiate their own
individuality and confidence.
ROXS premiere
collection for Spring 2006 boldly goes where few apparel brands have
gone before, offering a range of tops in 100% silk and high-end
cotton. Its premium materials find a complement in a host of
details: from treatments such as grinding, stone and enzyme washing
to hand-embroidery. At Coteries February 2006 show, ROXS will
unveil its Fall collection, to hit stores July/august 2006,
featuring the exclusive skin jean, jaxx short, wolf gang vest,
bullet dart skirt, punky Bermuda short, cross bones skirt, bullet
proof shirt, batwing crop and rainbow jacket. The Fall collection,
while incorporating satin, premium denim and leather embellishments,
will place an even stronger emphasis on intricate cuts and unique
fits. Its Holiday 2006 collection will see the premiere of
cashmere, including upscale cashmere printing, a rarity in the
fashion world.
While remaining
focused on the design, manufacture and distribution of women's
apparel in the $75-295 retail range, ROXS aims to eventually extend
into men's and children's apparel as well as licensed accessories.
ROXS will be
initially available in upscale specialty stores including Fred
Segal, Lounge, Jasmine Sola, LuLu's, Aura, Love Shack, H. Lorenzo
Sport, in such cities as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, San
Francisco, Dallas, Atlanta and Boston. Along with its design
facility in New York, its showrooms are located in New York, Los
Angeles and Miami. Visit the company online at
