With a background as
a tailor and an education in Fine Arts, it was inevitable for Kasil
designer David Lim to wind up with a career in design. Upon
graduating from the San Francisco Arts School where he studied
painting, Lim spent the next three years working as a muralist and
traveling around the U.S. before settling back in Los Angeles and
entering the family business.
While working at
Lim's father's company, a custom tailoring business that catered to
a clientele that includes politicians, celebrities and stylists, Lim
became fluent in the different types of fabrics and the detailed
skill necessary to custom-make a suit. After playing with scraps of
denim he found in his father's fabric collection, Lim quickly became
enamored with denim's ability to tolerate and absorb manipulation
via sanding to fade the indigo, dying to tint the material or
painting to accent its form.
Denim) is like
painting how it develops over time, Lim said. You can get
different textures and feelings from it, and it all comes out of
that deep indigo hue.
He began creating
pieces for himself, and after much trial and error in perfecting the
fit he began taking orders from clients and developed his latest
venture into a career. In December 2002, Lim launched his denim
collection and began creating what is widely recognized and coveted
in the fashion world as KASIL.
All manufacturing of
Kasil products are based exclusively in the U.S. and outsourced only
to locally established contractors. Kasil maintains the highest
quality product as all detailing and abrasions to washes are
hand-created in an effort to create a distinct and original look.
Kasil satisfies the customer who seeks a high-quality denim in a
modern interpretation of the quintessential jean.
Limï latest
signature touch is seen in Season Back as subtle accents of
colorful fabrics inlayed in the back pockets of the jeans. Each
style is a limited edition and gives the wearer an opportunity to
have her own individual look. Kasil has become an ongoing study of
how something as ordinary as denim has progressed into a true test
of design and concept.
KASIL jeans are
available in a range of styles for women including Boot Cut, Slim
Fit and Boy Cut, and a Boot Fit and Slim Fit for men. Kasil jeans
are available in five denim wash categories: Rinse Born, Atlantic,
Baltic, Pacific and Destruct, light destructed faded denim. This
spring, Kasil launched Cloud 9 a line of brightly-colored Diamond-V jeans in pinks, greens, blues and summer white.
Lim currently
resides in Los Angeles where he has formed a substantial Hollywood
following which includes Brad Pitt, John Travolta, Angelina Jolie,
Jennifer Aniston, Lucy Liu, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Minnie
Driver and Lindsey Lohan. Kasil is sold in stores across the U.S.,
Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Singapore, Hong Kong, London and
Canada.
