When was the first Fashion Week?
The first official Fashion Week began as "Press Week" in 1943 at the height of World War II. The American fashion media couldn't travel to Paris to see the next season's fashion collections. New York used this opportunity to show off its own fashion. This turned into the first "Press Week". After that, Press Week turned into Fashion Week and shows were staged in venues all over New York City.
According to Wikipedia, "A fashion week is a fashion industry event, lasting approximately one week, wherein fashion designers, brands or "houses" display their latest collections in runway fashion shows to buyers and the media. These events influence trends for the current and upcoming seasons."
