How did they come up with the company name?

Since they are a Web business, they knowthey have to be hard to catch; they always have to be nimble, fast and ready to turn directions on a dime. The "Fly" seemed to perfectly symbolize their objectives. The idea of "Blue" really came from giving the name a friendly personality. They built the site and the business to be interesting, creative, enjoyable and just slightly unpredictable and thus, "Bluefly" was born.

Bluefly.com is owned by Bluefly, Inc. Bluefly was a publicly traded company (NASDAQ SmallCap: BFLY). The company had its initial public offering on May 21, 1997.

Bluefly, Inc., a leading online retailer of designer fashion and accessories, and A + D Labs, a premier designer and manufacturer of fashion eyewear, announced on January 10, 2011 plans to launch Eyefly, a new online eyewear company to be owned 52% by Bluefly and 48% by A + D Labs, in Spring 2011. Eyefly is a unique concept in fashion eyewear offering consumers on-trend frames and prescription lenses for a fraction of the price of eyewear boutiques, in an engaging and interactive online shopping experience.

A + D Labs is a designer and manufacturer of premier fashion eyewear owned by Alessandro Lanaro who boasts over 20 years in the eyewear business.

On October 25, 2012, the Company sold its entire 52% interest in Eyefly to A + D Labs. In May 2013, an affiliate of Clearlake Capital Group purchased approximately 89% interest of Bluefly Inc.  On May 23, 2013, Runway Acquisition Sub, Inc. (the "Purchaser"), an affiliate of Clearlake Capital Group, purchased from entities affiliated with the four principal stockholders (the "Principal Stockholders") of Bluefly, Inc. ("Bluefly"): Rho Ventures VI, LP ("Rho"); Quantum Industrial Partners LDC; Maverick Fund USA, Ltd., Maverick Fund, L.D.C., and Maverick Fund II, Ltd.; and Prentice Consumer Partners, LP ("Prentice") all of the shares of Bluefly's common stock. At the Effective Time, the Purchaser merged with and into Bluefly, with Bluefly surviving. As a result of the Merger, each issued and outstanding share of Bluefly's common stock (other than shares of common stock owned by the Purchaser or by Clear Mode, LLC, an affiliate of Clearlake and the sole stockholder of the Purchaser ("Clear Mode"), shares of common stock held by Bluefly as non-voting treasury shares
