What is the difference between machinery & equipment? In short, equipment can be used to make machines. From a mechanical standpoint, equipment has a much wider definition and is often required to create something (such as a machine). Machines are the completed product. In other words, machines are byproducts of the equipment used to create them, but they are not often needed in the same environment. There are basically three types of manufacturing equipment: machines that create items, machines that assemble items and machines that aid human operators in creating or assembling items.
As nouns the difference between machine and equipment is that machine is a device that directs and controls energy, often in the form of movement or electricity, to produce a certain effect while equipment is the act of equipping, or the state of being equipped.
