Fashion Influence — how style shapes, and is shaped by, the people who wear it
This is the letter-U index of the Fashion Products guide. Its U product guides are linked directly below, in the chip list at the top of this page: Underwear, Undershirts and Union Suits, the three underlayer categories that begin with U.
Discover an eclectic world of fashion as we delve into clothing and footwear categories that begin with the letter "U." Our Ultimate Fashion Products Guide is your passport to style and comfort, showcasing a diverse range of options that will elevate your wardrobe and step up your shoe game. Whether you're on the hunt for unique fashion pieces or simply seeking to expand your sartorial horizons, this guide provides insights into the following captivating categories:
U is the underlayer letter. All three of its categories are garments worn beneath outer clothing, and together they cover the foundations of the wardrobe rather than its visible surface. Underwear is the general category, the garments worn next to the skin under everything else. Undershirts narrow that idea to the upper body, the layer worn under a shirt for comfort, warmth and protection of the outer garment. Union Suits are the historical form of the same idea, a single one-piece garment that does the work of an undershirt and underwear bottoms at once.
Because the letter is short, its three guides reward being read together. The underwear guide sets out the broad category; the undershirts guide covers the top half of the layering system; and the union suits guide preserves the one-piece design that predates the modern two-piece arrangement of separate undergarments. Each is linked in the chip list above, and the neighboring letters of the Fashion Products guide, T and V, are reached through the Fashion Products index.
Underlayers are also where the guide's neighboring categories connect. Thermals, in the T letter, are the cold-weather branch of the same under-clothing family, and tank tops began in part as an undershirt style before becoming outerwear. Reading the U guides alongside those entries shows how a small set of base garments supports the rest of the wardrobe in every season, which is why this short letter sits at the foundation of the products guide rather than at its margins.
Underwear, Undershirts and Union Suits, each linked in the chip list at the top of this page. The letter U is one of the shortest in this guide, and all three of its categories are underlayers.
A one-piece undergarment that combines a top and long bottoms in a single garment, the historical all-in-one underlayer. It is covered in its own guide, linked in the chip list above, alongside the separate underwear and undershirt categories.
They are separate U categories: undershirts are the upper-body underlayer worn under shirts, while underwear is the general category for garments worn beneath outer clothes. Each has its own guide, linked above.
