(ALCS)(“ALCO” or the “Company”) today announced that the Company and its subsidiary, ALCO Holdings, Limited Liability Company, filed on October 12, 2014 (the “Petition Date”) voluntary petitions for relief (the “Chapter 11 Petitions”) in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division (the “Bankruptcy Court”) seeking relief under the provisions of Chapter 11 of Title 11 of the United States Code (the “Bankruptcy Code”). The Debtors expect to continue to operate their businesses as “debtors-in-possession” under the jurisdiction of the Bankruptcy Court and in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Bankruptcy Code during the pendency of the cases under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code (the “Chapter 11 cases”). October 2013 Summary: Alco Stores, Inc. is engaged in the business of retailing general merchandise throughout the central portion of the United States of America through a range of department store outlets. The Company's ALCO stores offer a range of merchandise consisting of approximately 35,000 items, including automotive, commodities, crafts, domestics, electronics, furniture, hardware, health and beauty aids, housewares, jewelry, ladies', men's and children's apparel and shoes, pre-recorded music and video, sporting goods, seasonal items, stationery and toys. As of February 3, 2013, the Company operated 217 stores in 23 states located in mostly smaller communities in the central United States. The stores average approximately 21,000 square feet of selling space, with an additional 5,000 square feet utilized for merchandise processing, temporary storage and administration. June 28, 2012: Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc., which specializes in providing a superior selection of essential products for everyday life in small-town America, announced at its June 27 annual meeting of shareholders that the Company's name will officially change to ALCO Stores, Inc. An amendment to the Articles of Incorporation was approved yesterday at the annual meeting. ALCO Stores also plans to change its ticker symbol on NASDAQ to "ALCS."
