What is ready-to-wear clothing?
Ready-to-wear is the term for ready-made garments, sold in finished condition in standardized sizes. In other words, the garments are produced based on the designers measurement specifications and you buy the garment as it has been sized. It is NOT custom made to fit your specific body measurements.
The problem with ready-to-wear clothing is that their is no true industry standard in regard to garment size measurements. If you purchase a size medium shirt from one brand it does NOT mean it will have the exact same measurements as a shirt produced by another brand.
This type of clothing is also referenced as prêt-à-porter or "off-the-rack".

Simply put, ready-to-wear clothing is made for the general market and sold through retail stores rather than made to order for an individual customer. The concept was originally based on the consumer visiting the store & purchases clothing off the rack.
- Note: consumers don't actually have to visit the store, they can also purchase this type of clothing online.
Ready-to-wear clothes is often abbreviated RTW.
The off the rack type of clothing is different than made-to-measure or bespoke clothing tailored to a particular person's frame.
