Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), parent of global container transportation provider APL, announced the appointment of John Bowe as the new head of its APL Americas region.
Mr Bowe, a shipping veteran with more than three decades experience, was most recently the Vice President and Managing Director of APL’s important Hong Kong/South China region, a position he had held since 2001.
“Along with his business leadership role as Regional President, APL Americas, reporting to APL CEO Ron Widdows, John will also provide strategic, policy and regulatory inputs to the NOL Group on our businesses in the Americas. In this role, John will report directly to me,” said David Lim, NOL’s President and Chief Executive Officer.
“This will contribute directly to the development of Group-wide strategies designed to help us develop integrated capabilities designed to better meet the needs of customers,” Mr Lim said.
“With John at the helm of APL’s Americas team, I am confident that we will continue to see excellent results from our liner operations in the Americas, ” said Ron Widdows, CEO of APL. “John is uniquely qualified for this new role because he has both commercial and operations experience in the two arenas outside of the United States that are amongst the most important to our US customers – the Middle East and Hong Kong/South China.
“This experience will be invaluable when working with customers to meet their global transportation needs.”
Mr Widdows said Mr Bowe has also been integral to the development of APL’s global network.
“The combination of his broad experience and in-depth knowledge allows John a perspective that will be of considerable benefit to customers and to the growth of our business in this vital and growing market,” Mr Widdows said.
Mr Bowe said, “As more and more of our North America customers source manufacturing in multiple locations, especially in Asia, there are many opportunities to explore with them how we can move their products to market efficiently and provide the value and quality they seek. I very much look forward to working with them and with our capable team in the Americas.”
Mr Bowe has been with APL since 1987. His roles with the organization include Vice President, Liner Planning, Vice President, Yield Management, and Managing Director of West Asia.
Mr Bowe holds a degree in Mathematics from Hamilton College. He takes up his new role, based in Oakland, immediately.
The former head of the Americas region, Bill Hamlin, is leaving the APL to pursue other opportunities outside the container transportation industry.
Mr Lim and Mr Widdows said, “Bill has made a considerable contribution to the company during his time with us and we wish him the very best for the future.”
