DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. - June 28, 2001 - The Spiegel Group today announced that Robert H. Sorensen has joined the company as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective July 1, 2001. Sorensen, 54, will be responsible for the legal function of the company that was previously led by Michael R. Moran in his role as chief legal officer of the company. Sorensen will report to James Cannataro, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

Sorensen joins The Spiegel Group from Midas, Inc. where he has served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary since 1995. Prior to joining Midas, Sorensen was a partner at Kaufman, Chaiken and Sorensen, P.C., in Atlanta, and served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary of the Burger King Corporation in Miami. He also served as vice president and general counsel at Rollins, Inc. in Atlanta.

Sorensen earned his juris doctor degree from Emory University School of Law and a bachelor of arts degree in English literature from Georgia State University, both in Atlanta. Sorensen served in the United States Army from 1969 - 1972. He and his family live in Libertyville, Ill.
