Tolland, Connecticut, U.S.A. – Gerber Technology today announced that James Arthurs has been promoted to Executive Vice President and will assume leadership of the company’s marketing, product management, and R&D activities. These responsibilities are in addition to his existing global sales responsibilities. He will report directly to Marc Giles, President of the company. Arthurs joined Gerber in 1980 to establish a system of agents and distributors – a network which today is comprised of more than 70 companies throughout the world. During his 22 years with Gerber he has led the expansion of the company’s International activities, founding subsidiaries in Australia, Mexico, Hong Kong and China. Most recently he was instrumental in developing and initiating Gerber’s new business strategy. “This is a natural progression for James and fits in very well with our new business strategy,” stated Marc Giles. “Marketing, product management and R&D are all key areas in our ongoing sales efforts, new customer prospecting, and existing customer retention activities. By managing each of these areas under one umbrella, and one very capable and highly experienced leader, we will be better positioned to more effectively respond to our customers’ needs.” In 1993 Arthurs participated in the first official U.S. Trade Mission to Vietnam at the invitation of the Hanoi Government. He also took part in official Trade Missions to Taiwan and India in 1993 and 2000 and was invited to testify to Congress on U.S. – Taiwan Economic Relations in connection with Taiwan’s application to join GATT in 1993. In 1988 Arthurs participated in the official U.S.–Soviet trade organization where he attended a dinner at the Kremlin hosted by President Gorbachev. *********************
