New faces and returning favorites make up the roster of dynamic speakers slated to participate in the Educational Seminars taking place during the Industry (212) show, Monday, September 29th – Wednesday, October 1st, held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. The keynote address and ten free seminars scheduled during the course of the three-day show offer a range of topics including: merchandising, creative marketing, sales and operations and trend forecasting.

Back by popular demand, David Wolfe, Creative Director, The Doneger Group, will give a special keynote address “Style in a Changing World” on Tuesday, September 30th at 10:00 am, where he examines how today’s rapid change cycle affect trends, color, textiles, marketing and all aspects of lifestyle. Known as “America’s Foremost Fashion Forecaster,” Wolfe guarantees attendees a thought-provoking seminar filled with wit and wisdom.

The new “Maximizing By Accessorizing,” a visually exciting presentation is sure to be a show highlight. Taking place on Tuesday, September 30th at 1:30pm, this hands-on seminar will feature exhibitor fashions and accessories that reflect the hottest trends. The hour explores how adding accessories to the retail mix can not only liven up store displays but also provides one-stop shopping for customers and, in turn, increase sales. Hosting this inspiring seminar is dynamic duo Najwa Moses and Elisa Harca, co-founders of Styleaholics Productions, who make headlines with their New York fashion event, The Closet, which brings together the city’s independent designers with shoppers in a unique party atmosphere.

Several other seminars explore different aspects of merchandising. With more than twenty years in department and specialty store retail, Cathy McNeal, Executive Vice President and General Merchandising Manager of Caché, shares her perspective on the topic, “What’s Hot, What’s Not: How To Choose Product For Your Store To Keep You Ahead of Your Competition,” which takes place on Monday, September 29th at 1:30pm. Jennifer Reeves, Senior Marketing Director, Naturalizer, will share the platform with Bethany Mayer, Owner of Geraldine, a NoLIta designer shoe boutique, for “How to Create & Build a Strong Retail Brand,” Wednesday, October 1st at 10:00am. Eric Feigenbaum, Chairperson of the Visual Merchandising Department at the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising in New York City, will provide real-life examples of winning merchandise techniques in “Love at First Sight: Creative Merchandising Techniques for Your Store,” on Wednesday, October 1st at 2:30pm.

The small retailer will not want to miss: “Creative Marketing & Promotion Strategies on a Shoe String Budget,” on Monday, September 29th at 11:00 am. Sharing the platform for this insightful seminar are New York success stories: Stacy Johnson, fashion designer and owner of Stacia New York, a destination boutique in Brooklyn; and Ike and Ingrid Rodriguez, the husband-and-wife team behind Find Outlet, two downtown shops that carry hip women’s designer fashions at discount prices.

In a special two-part series, Mercedes Gonzalez, Director, The Global Purchasing Group, who spoke on customer service at the May show, returns with “Retail 101: How to Run a Successful Retail Store.” Part I is geared for new retailers and reviews all the fundamentals—such as the when, where and how to buy, pricing, merchandising and display and it takes place on Tuesday, September 30th at 11:30am. Part II focuses on sales and operations and covers what to look for when hiring salespeople, how to train and set goals and policies for employees and will be held the same day at 3:30pm.

To help attendees shop the show from a trends perspective is Lisa Mainardi, Director, The American Trend & Color Committee and a return guest speaker at Industry (212). She dissects the upcoming color and silhouette directions and shows how they can be utilized in determining buying needs in “Spring/Summer 2004 Color & Trend Preview” which takes place on Monday, September 29th at 3:00pm.

For the first time, Industry (212) will offer a special seminar for International exhibitors, “How to Do Business in The United States,” on Monday, September 29th at 6:00pm, which will cover distribution, pricing, costs and other relevant aspects of marketing international apparel and accessories in the world’s biggest market.
