In this section you will learn about Fashion Widgets (by the way the term "Fashion Widgets" was coined by the Apparel Search Company in June 2007). Do you know what a "widget" is? More importantly, do you know what a "Fashion Widget" is? Well first, let me give you a little info about the term widget as it relates to the internet.According to Wikipedia, in computer programming, a widget (or control) is an interface element that a computer user interacts with, such as a window or a text box. Widgets are sometimes qualified as virtual to distinguish them from their physical counterparts, e.g. virtual buttons that can be clicked with a mouse cursor, vs. physical buttons that can be pressed with a finger. Widgets are often packaged together in widget toolkits. Programmers use widgets to build graphical user interfaces (GUIs). This definition has been obtained under the GNU Free Documentation License. Definition from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/widget (June 2007) Now that we have that boring definition out of the way, let me tell you about the Fashion Widget. Actually, I guess the Apparel Search Company is the first to actually call something a "fashion widget". When searching for a method to add news and job listings to fashion blogs, I had learned about widgets. Then I decided that their should be widgets specifically for the fashion industry. Hence the "fashion widget". So far, I have created a few widgets. Some for fashion news and some for fashion jobs. You can find examples of what I have done at the Fashion Widget section on Apparel Search. To build these widgets, I had gone to a website called SpringWidgets. From that site, I was able to add RSS Feeds from my Clothing Industry Jobs website and fashion news feeds from my Fashion Newspaper website. The SpringWidgets site then creates the widget. The widget that has been created can then be used on any fashion website. For example, they can be used on blogs, portals, networks sucah as mySpace, etc. If you want to try an make your own widget, you can find apparel industry RSS Feeds on Apparel search. You can use Fashion Job RSS Feeds or Fashion Industry News RSS Feeds. You may also have interest in learning about fashion gadgets. |
