Sidney Kimmel founded and became President of the Jones Apparel Division of W. R. Grace & Co. in 1970. In 1975 Mr. Kimmel and a partner bought the Company from Grace and incorporated it as Jones Apparel Group, Inc. under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Over the following ten years, Mr. Kimmel proceeded to build Jones New York into one of the finest names in the better women's apparel business. Through consistently high design and quality and successful merchandising, marketing and advertising, Jones has grown into a substantial force in the women's apparel industry.
In April 2002, Jones Apparel Group completed its acquisition of Gloria Vanderbilt Apparel Corp. and Gloria Vanderbilt Trademark B.V. Gloria Vanderbilt is a leading designer, marketer and distributor of women's moderately priced stretch and twill jeanswear. Gloria Vanderbilt markets its products nationwide to national chains, department stores, mass merchants, and specialty retailers. Brands include Gloria Vanderbilt and junior product marketed under the GLO brand name. Licensed products under the Gloria Vanderbilt brand include footwear, watches, socks, sleepwear, outerwear, swimwear and hair accessories.
