Fashion News Directory Textile fibers (or spelled fibers depending on where you live) can be created from many natural or man-made sources. Natural fibers can be from animal hair or fur, insect cocoons as with silk worm cocoons, plants, etc. Synthetic or man-made fibers are ones such as Nylon, Polyester, Spandex, etc. Semisynthetic methods that use naturally occurring polymers, and synthetic methods that use polymer-based materials, and even minerals such as metals to make foils and wires. When purchasing clothing you will find that the textile industry requires that fiber content be provided on content labels (care labels).
The apparel industry is interested in issues from fiber to fashion. The fiber is needed in order to make fabric. The fabric is then used to make clothing. A textile or cloth is a flexible material consisting of a network of natural or artificial fibers (yarn or thread). yarn is produced by spinning raw fibers of wool, flax, cotton, or other material to produce long strands. Textiles are formed by weaving, knitting, crocheting, knotting, or felting. Textiles can be made from many materials. These materials come from four main sources: animal (wool, silk), plant (cotton, flax, jute), mineral (asbestos, glass fiber), and synthetic (nylon, polyester, acrylic).
