New York, NY—June 17, 2008—In 2003, Kathryn Finney,  author, television personality, philanthropist and multimedia mogul, became an internet pioneer with the launch of her blog, The Budget Fashionista (www.thebudgetfashionista.com). Five years later she still leads the pack as the #1 fashion blogger, with over a half of a million unique visitors per month. She was the first fashion blogger to ever receive a major book deal (HOW TO BE A BUDGET FASHIONISTA: The Ultimate Guide to Looking Fabulous for Less- Ballantine Books, May 2006), which instantly became an Amazon bestseller and is a frequent guest on television shows such as the “TODAY Show,” “Good Morning America” and CNN. Recently, Real Simple Magazine listed The Budget Fashionista as one of their favorite fashion blogs.

To commemorate her 5-year reign as queen of the fashion media industry, Kathryn and the Simply Good Media team, along with sponsors Payless are throwing a huge bash during New York’s acclaimed Fashion Week. Slated for Monday, September 8th from 7-9:30pm, The Housing Works Thrift Shop will close its Flagship store early for the first time in its history for this event.  Finney will highlight and share some of her favorite brands of apparel, accessories, beauty products, and more as her guests sip “Budget Fashionista” Martinis from the open bar and sample savory food.  Guests will leave the event carrying tons of goodies in an "I Heart Shoes" tote bag, exclusively created by Payless for The Budget Fashionista's 5th Anniversary Event. 

“Five years ago, I started The Budget Fashionista from a love of fashion, but a lack of cash,” said Kathryn, “I look forward to a night to celebrate our amazing growth, our fabulous readers, and of course, our favorite brands all while helping one of our favorite charities.”

During the months leading up to the celebration, Kathryn will be available to dish tips on how to look fabulous on a budget, including tips on how to "recession proof" your closet and how to get over 30 different outfits out of 10 simple items, as well as comment on the impact of the recent economy troubles on shoppers.
