Carding is the processing of raw or fibers brushing it. It is used for cotton, wool and bast fibers. Hand carders are like dog brushes and are used two at a time, brushing the wool between the two until all the fibers in a bunch are going in the same direction. Machine carding is done with brushes on a drum. Separated fibers are fed into the machine, picked up and brushed onto either so called flats (cotton) or several more drums (wool), and then removed.
